Our hips store a lot of tension and if you sit at a desk for work, chances are you probably have tight hips.
Why is hip mobility important?
When hip flexors and rotators become tight, muscles in this area become weak, which negatively affects our posture and stability in the spine. Stretching these muscles helps to:
- relieve tension
- improve range of motion
- build strength
- improve circulation
- avoid hip and back pain
Join us for a two hour workshop, lead by our very own Dimitra Kotanides, to learn how to use SMFR (self myofascial release) to help stimulate the stretch reflex in these muscles and lengthen connective tissue + how to incorporate hip opener poses into your yoga routine. This month we will work on the psoas and quad muscles. All levels welcome! Open to members and non-members. Bring your own mat. For IRL participants, we will have all props here for you to use. Virtual participants will need to have 2 blocks, 1 blanket, 1 tennis ball (or other myofascial release ball), a foam roller and 1 centre ball. (If you need any of these, please contact us. We sell them at the studio and you can pick them up after a class at the studio.)
